Dental Implants near Bel Air, MD

A dental implant is a medical grade titanium post that is surgically implanted into the jawbone just beneath the gum line. This metal post will act as the tooth root substitute providing a strong foundation for the dental restoration. This will prevent bone deterioration in the jaw as well.

The type of restoration that you need will depend on the number of teeth you are missing and their location. Dental implants do not come loose like dentures and can last a lifetime if cared for properly along with regular dental visits.

Dentists use dental implants to replace one missing tooth, several missing teeth, or all of your teeth. Then custom fit dental restorations are attached to the implant. Dental restorations now use the latest in dental materials for a natural looking tooth replacement. We offer the following types of implant restorations:

Implant supported dental crown

If the patient has a single missing tooth, the dentist will attach a dental crown to a single dental implant.

Implant supported dental bridge

When a patient is missing several consecutive missing teeth, a dentist can attach a bridge to at least two dental implants.

Implant supported dentures

If the patient is missing all of their teeth or an entire arch, we will place anywhere from 4-8 implants to secure a denture on each arch.

Dental Implant Process

Bel Air, MD area dentist, Dr. Umo will work with a local specialist to determine if you are a candidate for dental implants. They will take in to consideration your oral health, overall health and your bone structure.

We will coordinate the surgical phase of your implant procedure with a local oral surgeon or periodontist. Once the implants are in place, it will take about 3-6 months for all soft tissues to heal and for the post to integrate into the surrounding jaw bone.

Depending on the type of implant you are receiving, at the second visit your dentist will attach an abutment to the post. This will serve to secure the final restoration and will need to heal before the final step.

The dentist will place the final restoration in our Bel Air, MD area dentist office. We will adjust your “new teeth” for a comfortable fit and then permanently secure them to the post.

Dental implants are very easy to care for. You will care for them just like natural teeth. You simply need to brush and floss your teeth daily and schedule your dental visits to ensure oral health.
