Dental Implant FAQs

Fallston, MD, restorative dentist Dr. Melissa Elliott can help you determine if dental implants can restore your natural and beautiful smile. Dental implants can help patients regain confidence in their smiles and provide a stable oral foundation for optimal oral health.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are prosthetic teeth made of a highly durable biocompatible titanium. The implant is surgically implanted in your jaw and capped with a dental restoration for long term results.

What are the benefits of dental implants?

  • Superior function
  • Chew & speak normally
  • Protects your remaining teeth.
  • Won’t drift or move
  • Supports bone integrity

What is the dental implant process?

For most patients, the dental implant treatment will take place in two procedures.  The first is the surgical implantation of the implant. Dr. Elliott works cooperatively with local oral surgeons for the surgical phase of your treatment. Once healed, Dr. Elliott will design a custom-fabricated dental restoration to be permanently bonded to the implant.

How long do dental implants take to heal?

Dental implants generally take about 3-6 months to heal after surgery. You may be fit with a temporary restoration during this time depending on the position of your missing tooth. Once healed, your permanent restoration will be fixed.

Can I use dental implants to replace more than one missing tooth?

Dental implants can be used to replace one tooth, multiple teeth or all of your teeth. Implants can support a denture or bridge helping to permanently secure the restoration for a stable bite and confident smile.
