Dental Crowns Fallston, MD

Dental CrownAn Overview

Dental crowns are used to restore teeth that are cracked, broken or crooked. They can also address teeth that have decay or undergone a root canal. A dental crown can be custom designed to color match your natural teeth and can help add stability to your oral foundation.

Dental crowns add strength and protect your natural teeth, improving their function and overall aesthetics. We use porcelain dental crowns in our Fallston dentist office for the natural looking, long lasting, and stable results.

A dental crown may be needed in the following situations:

  • To cover a dental implant
  • To protect a weak tooth (for instance, from decay) from breaking, or to hold together parts of a cracked tooth
  • To restore an already broken tooth or a tooth that has been severely worn down
  • To cover and support a tooth with a large filling when there isn’t enough tooth left
  • To hold a dental bridge in place
  • To cover misshapen or severely discolored teeth

Dental Crown What to Expect

Dental Crown Process

Planning Phase
Dr. Comeau will perform a comprehensive examination of your teeth, mouth and gums. A customized treatment plan will be created that will restore the tooth to optimal health and function with a dental crown.

Tooth Preparation
Once the treatment plan is finalized, Dr. Comeau will prepare the tooth/teeth by removing a small amount of the natural tooth structure to create room for the tooth crown and to remove any decay. Impressions of your teeth will be taken and sent to a dental laboratory where your new dental crown will be fabricated.

A temporary restoration will be placed for comfort and normal function until your crown is ready.

Placement of the Crown

In about 2 to 3 weeks, you will return to our Fallston dentist office where Dr. Comeau will permanently bond the custom dental crown to your tooth after ensuring proper fit.

Is the dental crown procedure painful?

We strive to make sure each patient undergoing treatment with dental crowns is comfortable and relaxed. Dr. Comeau will numb the tooth and the surrounding area to ensure your comfort and then begin preparing the tooth.

How much does a dental crown cost?

The cost of dental crowns varies due to the type of crown you request and the state of your oral health. Before we begin treatment, we will fully review the entire procedure with you, including the dental crown cost. We also accept most dental insurance plans and can offer payment plan options. Consider interest free-financing with CareCredit.

I have a metal dental crown; can it be replaced with a porcelain dental crown?

Yes, we can replace metal, broken or worn down dental crowns with new, porcelain dental crowns. Replacing dental crowns is a simple procedure that can provide dramatic improvement in the appearance of the smile.

How long do dental crowns last?

On average, porcelain tooth crowns can last between 5 to 15 years. That is a large range, but it is dramatically affected by how well you take care of your teeth. Naturally if you are diligent and active in your dental health, your crowns can last a lifetime.
