Teeth Whitening FAQs

Are you interested in professional teeth whitening treatment? Learn the answers to frequently asked questions about teeth whitening below:

What is Zoom™ teeth whitening?

Zoom is an in-office tooth whitening treatment that can whiten your teeth up to eight shades lighter in just one hour. Dr. Elliott will apply a special paste to the surface of your teeth during and after treatment to minimize tooth sensitivity. She will also provide custom-fit teeth whitening trays that will help to reduce dark spots or stains on teeth.

Zoom teeth whitening uses hydrogen peroxide whitening gel that is activated by the Zoom light. The gel penetrates the teeth to lighten stains and discoloration.

Teenagers and adults 13 years and older are candidates for Zoom teeth whitening.

How long does teeth whitening last?

The long-term results of professional teeth whitening depend on the individual. Using tobacco products, drinking coffee, tea or soft drinks can work against results. Regular professional care and use of the touch-up whitening gel will help maintain a whiter smile.

Is teeth whitening painful?

Teeth whitening is not painful. Although some teeth whitening treatments may increase tooth or gum sensitivity, teeth whitening treatment should not be overly uncomfortable. Call our office if you experience severe tooth or gum pain following a procedure.

What are alternatives to teeth whitening?

If you have deep stains that teeth whitening cannot fix, Dr. Elliott may recommend porcelain veneers or dental crowns. These treatment options protect teeth while giving them a brighter and whiter appearance. Veneers and crowns can also last for many years.
